Final Info

General Info

  • Final exam on Saturday, December 14th 2024 7pm-10pm in SRYE 1002.
    • Everyone will write in the one room (we can just fit!)
  • Likely designed for 2 hours, but you'll have 3 hours to write.
  • May not be able to write exam if later than 60 minutes.
  • No sample Dr. Brian final exam is available; see midterm info page for sample midterm exam which has a similar structure to the final.
    Sample questions from Toby Donaldson (C++), ignore section on Enumerated types.
  • If sick or unable to attend exam, student must email Dr. Brian a completed Self Declaration Form in order to be considered for writing the makeup final later.

Material

Resources in Exam

  • You are allowed one 8.5" x 11" sheet of notes: hand written, double sided. You can write anything you like on it.
  • No other aids permitted, such as: calculators, textbooks, dictionaries, cell-phones, smart-watches, pocket-gnome, poll-the-audience, or ask-a-friend.
  • I will be happy to explain non-technical terms.

Possible Question Types

  • Multiple choice. Warning: These can be challenging questions!
  • Short answer.
  • Understand, explain, and writing C++ code and algorithms.
  • Exam is written on paper: no computers.

Exam Directions

  • Find a seat with an exam.
    • Do not sit near your friends or study-mates: they think like you do!
    • If you like to look around, then sit at the front.
  • Take out:
    • Your Student ID
    • Writing tools: pens, pencils, eraser, whiteout...
    • Water bottle, cookies...
    • 1 page (double sided) of notes sheet.
  • Put everything else at the front of the room.
    • Cell phones and smart-watches off and at front. Not for checking time.
  • Fill out the front of the exam.
  • Any academic dishonesty may lead to a grade of 0 for the entire exam.
    • Touching a cell phone / smart-watch during the exam will be considered academic dishonesty.
  • Communicate only with a TA or the instructor.
    • Do not look around room at other students.
    • When thinking, look up, not around the room.
  • Cover your paper as much as reasonably possible.
  • You have 180 minutes once told to begin.
  • You may not leave the exam during the first 60 minutes, or the last 30 minutes.

Final Exam Viewing

  • Tuesday, Dec 17th 11am-2:30pm, in the lab (SRYE 4013).
  • I'm happy to discuss marking and correct marking errors.
    Negotiating/insisting on more marks will lead to a remark of entire exam. Grade may go up or down!
