General Info

  • Final exam on Saturday, December 14th 2024 12pm-3pm in SRYE 1002.
  • Exam format:
    • 3 hour long exam; designed for 2h.
    • Allowed one 8.5" x 11" (full page), double sided, hand-written cheat-sheet / crib-notes
      • You are allowed to have the crib notes for the full exam.
    • Will be on paper and contain multiple choice, short answer, and reading/writing code questions.
      • Includes multiple choice questions (likely ~60).
      • Includes writing Python code.
      • Includes short-answer questions.
      • Likely includes reading code and writing its output.
    • Exam is not divided into sections of fixed time: you will have the full time to work on the full exam.
  • Sample exams
    • Sample exams from other instructors may include a little material which we did not cover.
    • Sample exam for another section (Dr. Donaldson).
      • Highly recommended to try the 60 multiple choice questions.
    • Sample exam generator for another section (Dr. Vincent).
  • If sick or unable to attend exam, student must email Dr. Brian a completed Self Declaration Form in order to be considered for writing the makeup final later.

  • Lectures: Cumulative for whole course; likely weighted more heavily towards end of course.
  • All assignments and project.
  • All labs.

Resources in Exam

  • You are allowed one 8.5" x 11" sheet of notes: hand written, double sided. You can write anything you like on it. May only be able to use the cheat-sheet on part of the exam.
  • No other aids permitted, such as: calculators, textbooks, dictionaries, cell-phones, smart-watches, pocket-gnome, poll-the-audience, or ask-a-friend.
  • I will be happy to explain non-technical terms.

Exam Directions

  • Find a seat with an exam.
    • Do not sit near your friends or study-mates: they think like you do!
    • If you like to look around, then sit at the front.
  • Take out:
    • Your Student ID
    • Writing tools: pens, pencils, eraser, whiteout...
    • Water bottle, cookies...
    • 1 page (double sided) of notes sheet (when permitted).
  • Put everything else at the front of the room.
    • Cell phones and smart-watches off and at front. Not for checking time.
  • Fill out the front of the exam.
  • Any academic dishonesty may lead to a grade of 0 for the entire exam.
    • Touching a cell phone / smart-watch during the exam will be considered academic dishonesty.
  • Communicate only with a TA or the instructor.
    • Do not look around room at other students.
    • When thinking, look up, not around the room.
  • Cover your paper as much as reasonably possible.

Final Exam Viewing

  • Tuesday, Dec 17th 11am-2:30pm, in the lab (SRYE 4013).
  • I'm happy to discuss marking and correct marking errors.
    Negotiating/insisting on more marks will lead to a remark of entire exam. Grade may go up or down!
