Rubric for Reading Responses ============================ TA will pick one response to mark. General 10 Great job at relating the quote to chosen response, and having a clear, meaningful and high-quality response. 8 Quote relates to chosen response, but does not really connect and fully explain its point; response is reasonable but not great. 5 Poor job relating quote to chosen response. Reader can somewhat see its relevant but response is unclear, vague, or wishy-washy. 0-3 Quote seems to have little relevance to response; response is very poorly executed. Size must be between 250 and 350 words (not counting quotes or citations). Deductions apply if too short or too long. See below for more. Reading Discussion Questions 10 Answers to all questions are of good quality and correct. 8 Answers to most questions are of good quality and correct; a few may be unclear or incorrect 4 Answers to a some questions are of good quality and correct; many may be unclear or incorrect Summarize the Chapter 10 Captures a reasonable amount of detail on what was covered in the chapter, highlighting a few important points. 8 Captures many good points, but summary is somewhat incomplete or does not highlight (make bold/etc) some important points. 4 Summary is of poor quality: incomplete. Deductions -2 for not citing clear quote (book's section or page number OK); must include quotes or block-quotes for the quoted text. -2 poor grammar/spelling (apply -1 if a couple minor issues; -2 if more. -3 or more if pervasive) -5 for submitting only one response (assuming two responses were required) If there were N required responses, but student submitted only M, then max grade is (10 * M / N) -1 to -3 for padding text to meet length requirement without saying much. For example, "Don't repeat what you have already said, just to say it again, to make your text longer because this is redundant and reading something that is redundant just makes you read the same thing over again without adding any value beyond what you said initially." -1 for exceeding expected length (close to 50+ words over max), but still having a high quality response. -2 for exceeding expected length (close to 50+ words over max), but length degrades quality of response.
